Day 2 on the mission trip

We started our morning off at the crack of dawn with a hike up Petitbois, the "small mountain". It only took 2 hours to get up and 2 hours to get back down. We got to the top just in time to see the school kids say their pledge to the flag and then they sang us a song.

When got back down around 9:30 and rehydrated ourselves, we started packing up the truck to take love bundles to the school and the buckets to a tent city. The children in the school were overjoyed to receive their small bundles of person hygiene items and some school supplies. It seemed like Christmas to those children.

After that we stopped by a tent city that was right across the black top and dropped off the water buckets that contained hygiene items, a filtration system, and some other things that they have been doing without.

We managed to get all of this done before lunch! Afterwards we all packed back into the truck and headed down to the market. It was neat and humbling to see how the Haitians adapt to the heat and limited resources here.

One last things I can't help but comment on is the driving here. It's crazy! End of story. But so far our trip has been amazing, rewarding, and fun. They work so much harder here for everything but life seems to also go at a much slower pace than in the U.S.. Without the media, technology, and everyday stress we have adapted to, they seem to just enjoy the little things in a simple day to day life.
